"Twilight Prayer" by Pat Duggan
The twilight is falling as stars fill the sky, In Ever Grateful Memory
I sit by the window on Prayers I rely,
Thinking of Frank, my husband a year,
Praying that God would soon bring him near
For he is a Soldier in uniform grand,
Now fights for his Country in that Foreign land,
For the “Great War” is thundering the ears of these Men,
As they run for more cover to the trenches again,
The enemy is using some poisonous gas,
I pray the wind changes ,over them it would pass.
Our small son sleeps in his “cot” by the fire,
I pray by the window as the moon climbs still higher,
Franks shirts on the table, the collar I feel,
Brings memories back,of that day we did kneel,
In the small Church back home, taking our Vows,
Pray thankful to God,Bring him home Safely somehow.
