Springtime in County Waterford,,we are on the " Back Road ",,from Carrick - Beg,/ Carrick - on - Suir to Clonmel,,the Daffodils are in Bloom,,,The River Suir runs through the lands a few Hundred Yards from the house,heading for Carrick,,Fiddown,,Mooncoin and Waterford City,,,we can see " Slievenamon " which is in County Tipperary,and the County Anthem,,,, Anthem,,,and as we mention Mooncoin we remember " The Rose of Mooncoin " is the County Kilkenny Anthem,,,Two great Rivals in the Hurling Game,,,,and just up the road from here is Maurice Davin interred in Churchtown Graveyard,R.I.P. Maurice as we all know is a Co - Founder Member of the G.A.A. and in Carrick -on -Suir the G.A.A. Grounds Are named in His Honour "The Davin Park " near" Sean Treacy Park " residential area,,and just up the road again at " Deerpark " the Farm Lands of The Davin's,,,Hurling,,Football and Athletics were practised in a Large Field [opp. Miloko Factory /Glanbia ] and in this Field Kilkenny won their First All- Ireland Senior Hurling Title,,,,,There is a Plaque on the Wall of the entrance to this Field,,,,i cannot recall the year or the opposing Team of this Win but I will get all the info and come back with it and edit it into this script,,,,,INFORMATION from Plaque,,,,1904 - 2004 This Plaque Commemorates Kilkenny's 1st All - Ireland Hurling Victory,,In the 1904 Final played here in this Field at Deerpark,Carrick -on Suir,on 24th June 1906,,Referee was Mr. M.Crowe from Limerick,,Scores Kilkenny 1-9 --- Cork 1-8,,,The field was owned by Mr. Maurice Davin Founder Member & 1st. President of the G.A.A.,,it was also used for Athletics during this Period,,,The Field is currently owned by Mr.Pat Walsh,,Grand - Nephew of Maurice Davin....
