With the advent of mobile/cell phones, these old telephone booths are fast becoming a thing of the past in Ireland.
They were once a very common sight in almost every town and village across the country where people went to make contact with friends and loved some close to home and many in far off lands.
Commonly known as the ‘telephone box’, they were very sturdily built and quite sound proof to the noise of street traffic etc but inside were quite noisy with the clatter of the many coins that had to be inserted to make a call.
