Papillon Plaque

This plaque in Moneygall, Co. Offaly commerates  the racehorse Papillon who was bred locally by E Mc Cormick. Papillon won the Aintree Grand National in 2000. The horse was owned by American Mrs Betty Moran, trained by Ted Walsh and ridden by his son Ruby who was having his first ride in the world famous horserace.

Papillon started the day with odds of 33–1 but was backed down to 10-1 by the time the race began. Papillon previously came a very close second in the Irish Grand National of 1998 under top-weight.
