Kilmogue dolmen, not far from the village of Mullinavat is known locally as "Leac an Scail" which is translated stone of the warrior/hero.
It’s one of the largest dolmens in Ireland and certainly one of the most impressive and spectacular.
The portal tomb was constructed using a large capstone which rests on two large portal-stones and a pillow stone resting on a backstone. The support stones are around 3.7 metres in height while the capstone measures over 4 metres.
The entrance faces to the NE with a door-stone almost 3 metres high.
If your interest is in prehistoric monuments and particularly Dolmens, then this is one site which is a must to visit.
