Proper English spells it potatoe, it was changed in "American" English later. he spelling of potatoe, while not terribly common, existed for almost the entire 20th century. For example, the New York Times was still occasionally spelling potato with an –e in 1988. In fact, one can easily find spellings of potatoe all the way up to 15 June of 1992, at which point they suddenly drop off or become used in an ironic way, referencing this incident.

Sorry, I type to fast at times, *The. Also, the incident referenced is the Dan Quayle "misspelling" of potatoe.
Potatoe, Potato....

I love it when people get so anal they focus on negative criticism rather than the article, which happens to be quite interesting. Proper English? Who speaks that anymore? No one seems to care how they act, dress or behave... so let's not act like stiff-assed Brits about spelling.

Tell it! You who rip on another actually make the same mistake. Please. Consider the article, not spelling. That's just ignorance, and an attempt to make someone feel inferior. Shame on you! We all make mistakes, and spelling a word wrong, is something we've all done. Act like an adult.

Along with cheque ...( check) or colour ...(color) . Just as immigrants have changed the spelling of there names to "fit" into the western world ( United States)... Before u critique a spelling "error" plz know we all make mistakes and what may look like a misspelled word now may not have been then. Ty for using " proper" grammar
tiny castle

I saw this on Facebook. A cute little castle but then I read it's history. It's not very old and has a horrible history. No wonder it's been abandoned by the locals. I'd throw thistle seed everywhere along with other vines with thorns. It's karma leaves it to rot. Imagine what happened to those he evicted. Make it a tour a history lesson for tourists like Hitler. Give the small fees to the local poor for food.

Would love to restore and turn into bed and breakfast. People love staying in places with history good or bad, but new memories would be wonderful!!

so, what we see is the elaborate gate and a larger castle was intended? What's-'is-name Lord Bullyblaggartmore couldn't afford it for his lady due to everyone starving? Yes, care home for the disabled and aging with rooms for visiting artists. ( I am an artist who wants to visit.) ;D
