An Old Pulping Machine,outside a Very Well Kept House in Inistioge,Co. Kilkenny.

A lot of people will remember this Root Vegetable Cutter,,,Manufactured by Pierce & Company of Wexford,I well remember using this similar type of machine,going back over Fifty Years ago,,helping out on a Dairy farm,,we used it for Grinding or Pulping Mangolds,,Turnips and Beets for feeding Milking Cows especially,,we just loaded whatever was used it was mostly Mangolds and Turnips in the top where the lovely flower holder is and had the feeding trough /box between the supporting legs where the image of the little Fox is sitting,,,you would then turn the handle which is hanging down and it Grated the root vegatbles,,just like Grating Cheese it emptied into the feeding trough /box,,,each Cow had one and when filled to a required amount Bran and or Oatmeal was added with perhaps some " Dairy Nuts "as they were called,,actually they were compressed into a cubical shape and were made of I think molasses,corn and other Health improving ingridients,,,,anyway the cows were always in a great hurry to get into their particular Cubicles to get at their Supper and were very content during Milking,,,they of course had Hay & Water at their heads also,,,and as a result gave plenty Milk,,,,those were the Days!
