This Gypsy Caravan is part of a wonderful display of all the modes of transport from the past on display at the Agricultural Museum, Johnstown Castle, County Wexford.
Gypsy caravans were once a common and colourful sight on Irish roads around the 1950’s and early 60’s. However, with the increasing number of motor vehicles and faster means of transport their numbers declined and eventually they became extinct.
These days, those surviving or reproductions of, are used mainly in tourism.
